The story, told through cutscenes, voice-overs, and in-game dialogue,
opens at a conference held by the renowned Dr. Otto Octavius, whos
preparing to demonstrate his latest invention. While the good doctor
pontificates about the virtues of progress through technology,
Spider-Man suddenly leaps onto the se and makes off with Octavius device
before the assembled crowd. Since the real Spider-Man, Peter Parker,
stands among the members of the press taking photos for the Daily Bugle
newspaper, it can only mean an imposter is at large and ruining Spideys
already tenuous reputation. Parkers jealous journalistic competition at
the Bugle, Eddie Brock, also witnesses the shocking event. The fact that
Octavius is really the supervillain Dr. Octopus and Brock plays host to
an evil alien symbiote named Venom can only mean more outlandish
trouble for our wall-crawling hero. This game takes classic superhero
melodrama and unashamedly runs with it.

PC games adapted from movies havent fared well in the past--nor have
games based on comic books for that matter. But Spider-Man: The Movie,
an action game released simultaneously for no less than five different
gaming platforms including the PC, succeeds mostly in capturing the
essence of Marvel Comics popular superhero. Thats in part because the
development team at Treyarch simply built off the core gameplay of the
previous Activision Spider-Man game released on the PC. As a result,
Spider-Man: The Movie boasts some impressive graphics (and requires a
high-end video card), but it has also inherited some of the older games
faults--the camera is incredibly difficult to deal with at times, even
despite some extra camera options available in the PC version. Also, the
control can be a little difficult to get used to, and the enemy AI can
be pretty bad. Nevertheless, most Spider-Man fans will still have fun
swinging in between (and mysteriously high up above) the games massive
skyscrapers or lurking in the shadows, waiting to pounce on an
unsuspecting villain. The convincing graphics will also help most
Spider-Man fans look past most of the games flaws.

At its core, the PC version of Spider-Man 2 is attempting to do the same
thing that the console game does. It takes only the most basic shreds
of story from the movie of the same name and inserts them into an action
game. In an attempt to liven things up a bit, the game does more than
merely pit Spider-Man against Dr. Octopus. Youll also face other
villains, like Mysterio, the Puma, and on multiple occasions youll
square off against Rhino. When you arent doing that, youre stopping bank
robberies and beating up on other, lesser thugs. Generally speaking,
the game doesnt go out of its way to tell any story at all. Youll get a
cutscene here and there, but most of these cutscenes are ugly. A few of
them come from the console versions of the game, and these look just
fine. But the cutscenes that were created specifically for this version
of the game are awful. They run at a choppy frame rate, and the scenes
would probably look better if they were just rendered in-engine.

The Ultimate Spider-Man comic series is a reenvisioning of the early
days of Spider-Man lore. Here, Peter Parker is a scrawny 15-year-old
kid, granted his powers via the infamous radioactive spider on a class
field trip. The plot of the Ultimate Spider-Man game doesnt spend much
time getting you up to speed with this, instead taking just a brief
minute or two to quickly show Parkers transformation into the titular
hero, as well as a bit of backstory about how he and his childhood
friend, Eddie Brock, stumble upon a mysterious bioengineered suit that
both their fathers had apparently been working on before their deaths.
As any comic aficionado might assume, this is the suit that turns Brock
into the gruesome, tongue-lashing beast known as Venom, and thats right
where things pick up. The plot itself is something of a disjointed
affair; its really more of an excuse to squeeze as many relevant Marvel
characters as possible into the package. But it does a good job of
achieving this goal by including plenty of friendly faces such as
Wolverine and the Human Torch, as well as modern versions of big-time
villains such as Carnage, Electro, Green Goblin, and, of course, Venom
himself.

Spider-Man 3 ties itself into the new Spidey film by including some of
the key story arcs from the movie. Youll see Peter Parker get his black
suit as well as run into villains like Sandman, New Goblin, and Venom.
But much like Spider-Man 2, the roster of villains doesnt end there.
Scorpion, Lizard, Kingpin, and others all pop up in spots. While it
makes sense for the developers to extend the scope of the story beyond
that of the film, trouble arises when you realize that the films plot is
practically glossed over. There are 10 individual storylines to play
through, but none of them are paced well, nor do they ever build up or
deliver enough of a story to pull it all together into one cohesive
plot. Its almost like a hastily cobbled together Spider-Man mixtape. You
get all the villains, and none of the story exposition. Theres about as
much character depth and story perspective here as is in the films
trailer.

The big concept twist that Friend or Foe offers up revolves around
Spider-Man teaming up with some of his most memorable foes. In a
reference to Venoms origin story from Spider-Man 3, some unknown
mastermind is using shards from the meteor that spawned the symbiotic
suit to brainwash villains such as Doc Ock and the Green Goblin to do
his bidding, as well as to power an army of holographic monsters called
phantoms. With the help of S.H.I.E.L.D. director Nick Fury, you trot the
globe, recover the shards, and free the brainwashed villains, which
turns enemies into allies. As thin as the premise is, the games jokey,
playful tone makes it seem less far-fetched, and it ultimately serves
its purpose of letting you fight alongside some of Spideys greatest
villains, a concept that manages to stay novel throughout. Youll also
team up with other heroes along the way, including Spidey regulars such
as Prowler, Black Cat, and Silver Sable, as well as b-team favorites
such as Iron Fist and Blade. A big part of what carries the humor in
Friend or Foe is the quality of the voice work, which is consistently
great.

The story is very engrossing and kept me interested all the way to the
end. The fact that Spiderman has periodic choices to make between going
the way of the black suit (bad) or the red suit (good), really adds that
much more to the game. I played through with the red suit first and
found myself instantly wanting to play through the game again to see
what would happen at different points in the game had I chosen the black
suit.

Spider-Man:Shattered Dimensions blends together the many alternate
universes of the world-famous webslinger with four unique takes on
Spider-Mans history in comics. In the game, Spider-Man attempts to
retrieve a piece of a tablet thats been scattered across multiple
parallel dimensions, and in doing so he crosses over to storylines
famous to comic book aficionados as variant tellings (including The
Amazing Spider-Man, Spider-Man 2099, Spider-Man Noir & Ultimate
Spider-Man) of the Spider-Man mythology.
Features:
- Through the space. Players get a unique opportunity to explore four
fundamentally different universes, each of which is made in the original
art style. For example, the world Magnificent (Amazing) recall the
classic, familiar from childhood brightest comics of Spider-Man, and an
exotic black and white Noir (Noir) make the plunge into a dark
mysterious atmosphere.
- One for all and all for one. In the transition from one world to
